Learn More About Insulation

How does insulation work?
Air pockets between fiberglass strands trap air that will resist the passage of heat flow through the material. This reduces heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer.

How much insulation do you need?
The US Department of Energy has broken the continental United States into 8 climate zones that each have recommended R-Values for homes. Our climate zone is climate zone 4 that has a recommended R-Value for the attic of R-38 to R-60.

To obtain an R-Value of R-38, you will need 13.25” of insulation whereas insulation installed at 19.75” will yield an R-Value of R-60.

What is an R-Value?
R-Value is the rating system used to grade insulation products insulating properties.

R-Value quantifies a material’s resistance to heat flow. The more resistant an attic is to heat flow means lower energy cost.
